Historical Nisâb Tool Guide

Historical nisâb tool guide image

This guide will help you use our Historical Nisâb Tool. You may find this tool useful in case of missed Zakâh in the past, to work out if you need to pay Zakâh (whether you were above nisâb or not last year) or simply for research purposes. Let us know if you find it useful.

This nisâb figure changes daily, so it's important to be aware of what this value is for Zakâh purposes. We have nisâb prices available on this website (updated daily). Please see Zakâh Nisâb and Mahr Prices - Daily Updates for more information.

However, those are current prices. What if you missed it and you need past prices? This is where this tool comes handy.

Select calendar

You have a choice of 3 calendars:

  • Gregorian - this is the standard calendar that you're familiar with
  • Hijri - this is an approximated Hijri calendar
  • Umm al-Qura - this is the well-known calculated calendar used in Saudi Arabia and various Muslim countries and communities

When you select one of these having already entered a date, the date will be automatically converted between the 3 calendars depending on your choice.

Select the date

Click on the text box or the calendar icon to pull up a calendar date picker. The calendar should be intuitive and fairly easy to use.

You cannot select a weekend date because the markets are closed on weekends, so the price would the same as the previous Friday, so if the date you require is on a weekend, simply select the Friday before, e.g. if it's Saturday May 9th, select Friday May 8th.

On a desktop/laptop, you will be able to see the full date when you hover each date.

For ease of use, the Islamic days (e.g. Yawm al-Jumu'ah [Friday]) have been translated to their English versions.

You can select any date from yesterday (if not a weekend) all the way back to the beginning of 1968 (yes, that's not a typo!)

Select end date (optional)

Selecting an end date is optional. You only need to enter this if you want a range of prices over a period of time. However, if you do, you'll see the results displayed in a nifty chart too.

Select nisâb type

You have a choice of either silver or gold. Most people will require silver which is the default option. However, if you only have/had gold assets (see the Zakâh Calculator Guide for more information), you can choose the gold nisâb option.

Select currency

You have a choice of 3 currencies: GB pounds, US dollars and euros. These are the currencies for which historical prices are available. The euro only came into existence on 1 January 1999, so you won't find any prices in euros before that date.

Results

After selecting your options, you're now ready to submit.

When the page is reloaded with the results, you will notice that the nisâb date selection form is "hidden". You only need to click Nisâb date to display the form to change your options/dates.

Graphical chart display

If you've selected a date range, you will now see a chart with the prices plotted on date against price. It may take a little while to load depending on how many days you have selected. You can hover over the points to see the date/price. This will help you visualise the fluctuations in the nisâb price over your selected period.

Tabular display

This will be displayed whether you have selected a single date or a range. It also includes an approximate Hijri date. You will notice that if you had selected a Hijri date, this has been auto-converted to the equivalent approximate Gregorian date.

If you have any feedback or notice any issues, please get in touch.

And Allâh knows best.
